DNA Evidence

DNA evidence or in other words DNA profiling is, according to the wikipedia page, a technique employed by forensic scientists to assist in the identification of individuals by their respective DNA profiles. With DNA evidence, I suspect to see almost no mention of it prior to the 1950’s because of when it was discovered and when it was widely accepted in popular media. I suspect that there will be some mention of it in the early 1950’s because it was a brand new discovery. It will be mentioned and gradually increase over the years, but I assumed that there will be a huge jump in the use of the word after the 1990’s and in the 2000’s. If there is, I would expect it to be because of the affect that CSI had on the world. It took the world by storm in the 2000’s. I expect to see a jump prior to it and during it.

Here are the results:

DNA Evidence

Figure 5. This is a screenshoot taken by my MacBook Pro of the Time Magazine Corpus Text Mine of “DNA evidence”.

The results are somewhat shocking because there is absolutely no mention of it prior to the 1990’s. It is mentioned fairly mentioned in the 1990’s, but then in the 2000’s, there is a drastic jump in the amount the phrase was used and the frequency in each magazine per million words. I attest this directly to the fascination with CSI and DNA evidence that america took up after the start of CSI on October 6, 2000. I then came up with my own idea. I would like to see use of the phrase ‘DNA’ by itself.
